Training

The improvement of continuous training is a primordial objective for CardioMet. Two projects have already started, the Doctorate School and the CardioMet seminars.

Thematic Doctorate School
CardioMet has set up a Thematic Doctorate School : Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases (ED-CVM) in collaboration with partners from Geneva and Fribourg.  In Lausanne, this training is recognised by the doctorate school of the Biology and Medicine Faculties.

The CardioMet seminars
To offer the opportunity to members of the CardioMet Centre to meet and share common interests, the Executive Committee has labelled a certain number of presentations as «CardioMet Seminars».

The aim is not to create new seminars or new conferences, but rather to allow all collaborators to take advantage of existing conferences and seminars to bring together clinicians and fundamental researchers around subjects of common interest with a translational («from bench to bedside») aspect.

The first CardioMet was announced at the end of December 2005 and held on the 18th of January 2006. It concerned the impressive advances in the treatment of diabetes type II, given by Prof. J.-J. Holst from Copenhagen, invited b Prof. B. Thorens. A very mixed audience of science researchers and clinicians followed this seminar, which was exactly what is hoped for.  It remains to improve the distribution of information so that more CardioMet members can benefit from these quality presentations.

All the collaborators of the CardioMet Centre who organise a seminar likely to interest a large public and to assemble clinicians and fundamental researchers around subjects of comment interest are invited to contact Thierry.Pedrazzini@chuv.ch to propose that the inclusion of this conference in the CardioMet Seminars.  To avoid any overload, the Executive Committee will make a limited selection (approximately one per month), which will be widely announced in the CHUV and the FBM.
