Biostatician

Pedro Marques-Vidal studied medicine in the Purpan Faculty of Toulouse (France) where he obtained a Masters (DEA) in Physiopathology and a Doctorate in Biochemistry.  He completed his training in Paris with a Masters (DEA) in Applied Health Statistics and in Rotterdam a course on statistic methods and epidemiology.

He has worked on the MONICA project in France and Finland before returning to Portugal where he practised in a private university Instituto Superior de Cienências da Saùde Egas Moniz - www.egasmoniz.edu.pt) then in the Molecular Institute of the medicine Faculty in Lisbon (www.imm.ul.pt) where he was responsible from 2003 to 2006 for research in nutritional  epidemiology.  As well as his work on nutrition and obesity, he has also collaborated on the statistical analysis of numerous studies in various areas (nutrition, gastroenterology, cardiology, pharmacoepidemology, odontology, cancerology, sports medicine, psychology).  This collaboration goes from the conception of the study (size of the sample, elaboration of questionnaires, procedures, and databases to the quality checks, statistical analyses, presentation of the results and reporting.

For several years he has been using the statistical software SAS, SPSS and Statistica, and has translated the Portuguese version of the free software database EpiData (www.epidat.dk).  He has taught informatics, statistics and epidemiology in several Portuguese universities and has written a book on the introduction of statistics for the health sciences available at www.fca.pt/lidel_index2.htm).

The 1st of December 2006 Dr. Pedro Marques-Vidal was named as the Assistant Chief of the Clinic of the University Institute of Social and Preventative Medicine (www.iumsp.ch).
